BIENVENIDOS (WELCOME) TO ARGENTINA
Argentina is the southernmost country in South America. The capital city of Buenos
Aires is a modern thriving city and home to over 12,000,000 Argentines in its metropolitan area of the country’s 37,000,000 population, ranking it as the seventh major city in the world. While Spanish and Italian influence are dominant, Argentina is a diverse melting pot oriented to European culture.
Argentina is also a country with a very unbalanced population, very large parts of its territory scarcely populated. It has a mild climate with four distinct seasons. Hundreds of thousands of acres of natural wetlands spread throughout the country produce millions of doves, ducks, geese and partridge (perdiz).
In the last few years, Argentina has become one of the leading destinations for its small and big game because of its large, wild, desolate plains, which make possible a practically unlimited amount of shooting. Over 16 different species of quality big game trophies are available and all are waiting for your best effort. For large game, hunters worldwide have begun to appreciate Argentina magnificent five main target species including red deer (stag), puma, water buffalo, brocket deer and wild lipped peccary. Other available species include fallow deer, axis deer, four horned sheep, black buck, capybara, wild boar and wild goat (locally called "chivo montés"). Hunting reserves are usually large local ranches called "estancias" that are not large enough to cater to very large groups and hunting parties generally can not exceed 12. Reservations should be made six months in advance.
Buenos Aires merges the old with the new and has always funneled the economical activity of the country through its famous port, its inhabitants often called "porteños. The port is used for exporting crops and meat, the country's main export products. Even nowadays it is South America's largest harbor. You must make time and do not hesitate to extend your stay a few days to explore Buenos Aires. The city is beautiful, people are friendly and the shopping and restaurants are fabulous. Remember, don't miss a tango show and experience some of the wonderful Argentina beef at an asado restaurant.
Buenos Aires is a necessary transit point, if not only a gateway for entering or exiting the subcontinent. Argentina has one international airport, is 47 kms away from Buenos Aires, called Ministro Pistarini or popularly Ezeiza after the town it is located in. Its international three-letter code is EZE. Another airport for domestic flights is called Aeroparque and is coded AEP.
BUE acts as the main hub with air routes linking directly to locations in the interior of the country and thus is at the focal point of crossroads when planning travel to South America.
