The Brocket is a small deer with characteristics of weight of 18-25 kg (40-55 lbs) or more, a shoulder height of 45-70 cm (18"-28") and length 90-130 cm (35"-51"). This deer has an elongated face, stout body, arched back, slender legs and a short tail. It is brown and shades vary within the species. The red Brocket has a reddish-brown back and pale belly with a whitish throat and chest. It has a short brown tail with white underside and a small white stripe on its rump. It has short, straight, unbranched antlers (spikes) that grow upward. The Brocket deer makes a whistling snort when alarmed and is active day or night and is also a good swimmer. The red Brocket is solitary or seen in pairs.
In Argentina, red Brocket deer reproduce from August to October. They typically give birth to one young, but twinning is not uncommon.
