OTHER AVAILABLE SPECIES

FALLOW DEER

The species of Fallow deer (Dama dama) as many others in Argentina, were introduced from Europe. They have adapted perfectly to this country's habitat, especially in the mountainous areas although they have adapted to many other parts of Argentina. The live especially in the Province of Buenos Aires (mountains of Sierra de la Ventana) and some parts of Los Andes mountains, Uruguay and on  game ranches in La Pampa. Most of the animals of this species are light brown color.

The hunting season is generally March through July. They are generally hunted by daylight on foot or from blinds placed near watering holes and feeding places.

AXIS DEER

Axis Deer are found generally in open or semi open country. Axis deer are stalked during their activity hours (mornings and afternoons) when they also normally come out of the forest for feeding. The shots are usually medium to long range and it is not necessary to hunt during the rut.

EUROPEAN MOUFLON, FERAL GOAT, WILD GOAT ("CHIVO MONTÉS"), FERAL SHEEP, SCOTTISH BLACK FACED SHEEP AND FOUR HORNED RAM

These varied species are generally stalked during daylight and hunters have to be prepared for long range shots as these animals live in open areas and have very good eyesight.

BLACK BUCK

Black Buck (Antilope cervicapra) are a species that was introduced from India to Argentina in the early 1900's. The population reproduced with ease until it has reached extraordinary proportions. Their natural habitat is in plain fields, where they feed and sleep. With the characteristics of this type of required habitat, they have developed a remarkable eye sight that makes them difficult to hunt. They have reproduced mainly in provinces of Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos (to the North of Buenos Aires).

The main hunting season is generally March through August, however this species hunting is allowed year  round. Shooting range is about 150 to 200 meters (500 - 650 feet), but approaching them is difficult because of their highly developed sense of vision and the speed at which they can run.

CAPYBARA

The capybara is the world’s largest rodent, something like a large guinea pig, and this semi-aquatic creature is dependent on the marsh ecosystem for its food, shelter and water. Mainly herbivorous, small herds of this exclusively South American species graze on the marsh’s succulent water plants from mid-afternoon through the late night.  Like all rodents, the capybara has continuous-growth incisors and physically can attaining sizes of over 50 kg (110 lbs.) in weight. This mammal has provided a food source previously for the indigenous populations, however it is now raised commercially as a source of hide for the region’s famed ultra-soft leather goods.

WILD BOAR

The Wild boar (Sus scrofa) was introduced from Europe almost one hundred years ago and have multiplied and spread all over the wooded areas of La Pampa. Hunting of this species is done mostly from blinds at night near watering places, although they can also be stalked on foot when there is a full moon.  Wild boar hunting is allowed year round, but the best time is in the months of May and June which is the  breeding season. Wild boar of  up to 250 kilos (550 lbs.) live weight with 26 cm (10“) tusks are available .
