The most popular time to hunt is during the rut or roaring season in mid-March through April. Although, trophy stags can be taken throughout the entire season which runs from mid-March through May. The legal hunting period for the Red deer is from March 15th to June 30th, the first 20 or 30 days being the most advantageous which is the rut season, the season in which the males fight for dominance over the females. The hunter is led by a guide into the forests on foot or on horseback early in the morning and in the evening. The roaring of the stags makes it possible to locate them and approach. After the rut ends in mid-April, stag hunting continues in the open fields where the deer come to feed, and where they can be observed at ease to assess trophy quality.
Depending upon the customer's preference, we can either stalk, hunt from a blind or on horseback. You'll see a number of trophies and the decision to pass or shoot maybe truly excruciating for the hunter, however there could be another larger stag right around the corner. The Red Deer (Cervus Elaphus) is the biggest deer in South America, the male weighing up to 250 Kg (550 pounds). These species were introduced from Europe at the beginning of the century and these animals have rapidly adapted to the forests of the pampas like the Patagonia and Los Andes Mountains.
